Carol Pickell Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and grief that we must share the unexpected passing of a dear and precious woman, Carol Anne Pickell (nee: Froom).  Carol will be forever mourned and immensely missed by Roy, her loving and devoted husband of 60 years.  Carol was a beautiful, wise, wonderfully talented, fiercely protective, loving and kind woman who we all called Nana. Together, Roy and Carol have four children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren who are also grieving and struggling with the loss of their matriarch:

Son Trevor and wife Teresa and their children, Nana’s Grandchildren, Tayler and Taz.  Tayler and husband Brendan Anderson have 2 children, Linden (11) and Jaylynn (12), Nana’s 1st and 2nd great-grandchildren.

Daughter Juel and children, Nana’s Grandchildren, Aaron and Josh Dykhuizen.

Son Derek and wife Glenda and their child, Nana’s Grandchild, Jenna. Jenna and husband Ray Trudeau have a 3 year old child, Nana’s 3rd great grandchild, Leo.

Son Blake and wife Lisa and their children, Nana’s Grandchildren, Brenna, Brady and Lauryn. Brenna and husband Lee Carter have a 16 month old child, Nana’s 4th great-grandchild, Maeve.

Carol is predeceased by her mother and father, Mildred and Alison Froom, and her older brother Gary and her younger sister Laurel.

Carol will be deeply missed by her older brother Don Froom, his wife Beverly and their children, Kim, Colleen, Graham and Chris; by Gary’s wife Lynn and children Dan, Charlene, Nancy, Evan and Lonnie Jane; and by, Laurel’s husband Ron Mustard and their child Chris. Carol’s passing has left many other grieving loved ones, extended family and lifelong friends.

Carol was born in Vita, Manitoba, on September 1st , 1937.  She was a very bright and musical child who excelled in school and enjoyed years of music and dance lessons.  She first met the man she would marry at a Grade 12 poetry competition in Dominion City, Manitoba.

In 1956 she graduated with honours from Normal School and became a school teacher in Winnipeg.  This was the same year her sweetheart Roy joined the RCMP and was stationed to British Columbia.  Carol and Roy relished their long distance relationship until they were married in 1960, at which point Carol instantly embraced life in the RCMP and forever encouraged and supported the mobility and opportunities of Roy’s policing career.  With each “transfer” Carol found work and joy in teaching every grade and level of student over 4 provinces. By the time Carol retired from her teaching career in 1992 she had carved out a renowned and beloved reputation in Adult College Education.

Retirement afforded her the time to return to another of her many talents directing choir at the St. Stephen’s United Church in Qualicum Beach, BC.  But when Carol and Roy became Nana & Grampa, Carol’s love and devotion to all children of the world was amplified upon her grandchildren a hundred fold.  The beautiful light and love of our dear NanaBear will be forever in our hearts and souls, twinkling in the starry nights, gleaming in the rising and setting suns, and singing and smiling amidst the songbirds of the universe, loving us all to the moon and back.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date by invitation due to varying restrictions.  In lieu of flowers, your loving donations can be made in Carol’s memory to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
