Harold and Marylyne Lien Obituary

Harold      Nov 6, 1940 – March 16, 2019 (Stud, Harry, Happy) Marylyne  Jan 1 1941 – Dec 2 2020 (The Warden)

Harold was born in Forestburg, AB to Karl and Ethel Lien

Marylyne was born in North Vancouver to Elsie Raine who later married Joe Pedley

Harold is survived by Sister Ramona (Russell Elliott) of Golden and brother Tom Lien of Surrey

Marylyne was an only Child.

They were predeceased by their parents and Harold’s brother Gordon, Sister Doreen, and daughters Patty 1981 and Shannon 2019.

They are both survived by 2 sons John (Cindy) Stony Plain, Joe (Penny) Forestburg as well as 8 grandchildren and 6 Great grand children.

Harold and Marylyne met in Golden in April of 1957 when Harold was visiting Russell and Ramona. They were married on June 25 of that year. Harold always laughed that everyone told him it would not last 6 months and at their 50th wedding anniversary he bragged about how it had been the longest 6 months in history. They lived in Golden for awhile and their daughter Patty was born 1959, they then moved back to Forestburg. Harold went farming for Herman Adams and it was there they had 3 more children John 1961, Joe 1963 and Shannon 1964. In 1966 they moved back to Golden and into the Blaeberry where they had a small farm and raised a variety of animals including cows, pigs, chickens and horses.

Harold went to work for Kicking Horse Forest Products in Golden and was there until it burned down then transferred to Donald and worked there until he retired at the age of 53. During his retirement he loved building things and started Happy Harolds woodworking. Marylyne worked at a few different jobs and finally settled in at Golden Drugmart where she worked for 20 years.

When they moved to town in 1977, they were involved in a lot of things in the community such as baseball, bowling, curling and golf. It did not matter what they were doing they did it together. They also loved to play bingo and made many trips to Calgary where they would play bingo then go shopping the next day and return home. They also travelled to Cranbrook for many of their bingo excursions. In the summer they would travel and play golf they especially liked going to Spur Valley by Edgewater.

Their grandchildren were incredibly special to them and when I moved to Alberta, they made many trips to Rocky Mountain House to visit with us and were always there for the special events of their lives.

In February of 2018 Harold was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, after completing his chemo the decision was made that they could no longer look after the house and the big yard in Golden and they moved to Spruce Grove so I could help look after their needs. In March 2019 after Dads passing Mom moved in with me and Cindy where she lived until she passed away in Dec of 2020.

They will be forever missed and loved by their family and many friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
