Howard deVeer Obituary

Howard was born in Abbotsford B.C. to parents, Mable and Theodore deVeer. Howard had two sisters, Ramona, and Carol. He was raised in the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite church. Howard was a shy but adventurous boy, who didn’t care much for being in school. In his early years, he learned the trade of carpentry from his father, and began working alongside him when he was 16. Howard’s work ethic, and attention to detail was evident in any project he worked on. He worked as a skilled tradesman for over fifty years.

Howard and his late wife Carol, married in 1976. Together they had three children: Cheryl, Patti and Gerald. They moved from Abbotsford to Salmon Arm in 1989. They were an active family, who enjoyed many hiking and camping adventures together. Howard was actively involved in cheering on his children in their various sports achievements, and later enjoyed many of these same activities with his grandchildren.

Howard married Kris in 2006. Together they enjoyed many adventures, camping, biking, paddling, and countless campfires with friends. They were active members of Lakeside Community Church. Howard and Kris were also involved with missions work in Mexico. There, Howard used his carpentry skills to help build an orphanage, and more importantly, share the love of God.

Anyone who knew Howard was blessed by his quiet and gentle spirit. Howard was affectionately known as “Howie”. He had a goofy side, and enjoyed teasing his friends and loved ones. He was also a great friend and confidant to many. Howard was always quick to put down his tools and meet a friend for coffee to listen, share and encourage. He also felt it of great importance to share his faith with others.

Howard was predeceased by his parents Mable and Theodore deVeer, and his late wife Carolyn Dianne deVeer (Puddifant). He leaves behind his loving wife Kris, his children: Cheryl de Vries (Jeff), Patti Bliss (Lee), and Gerald de Veer (Cassidy), his precious seven grandchildren: Lucas, Andrea, Kali, Lynden, Landon, Preston and Logan. He also leaves behind his sisters, Ramona Damen (John), and Carol deVeer, step-sons Jeff and Kevin Mayhew, step-daughter Lindsey Novakowski (Austin) and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Howard’s life will be held, at the Church of God in Christ, in Enderby B.C. Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021, at 3 pm.

When you hear the birds sing, think of Howard, healed of all sickness and enjoying eternity with his loving Saviour.

‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you, and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
