John Franks Obituary

John Franks passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022 with his wife Loretta Young and daughter, Crystal Franks by his side.

John will be greatly missed by his wife Loretta Young, son Michael, daughter Crystal, grand children Aries, Charlie, Ava, and Bodhi, sister Gloria, along with many friends and relatives.

John was born in Prince George but grew up and spent his working life as an equipment operator in Fraser Lake.  John always said that he had “lived a good life” growing up in central BC, where he loved the outdoors, whether it was dirt biking, snowmobile racing or boating on Fraser Lake.  He loved to tinker and fine-tune all of his rides.

John was a people person as well as a family man.   As a family, they spent many a time camping and travelling around the province as well as more exotic locations such as Hong Kong, Mexico and Disneyland.

John and Loretta retired to Salmon Arm in 2003.  Part of retirement found John enthusiastically involved with the Second Harvest Food bank primarily in the role of food and supply organization.  Retirement also enabled the couple to fully live out their shared passion for travel and exploration.  John and Loretta travelled extensively to numerous destinations and ports of call throughout the world.

John believed that every person had a story to tell. He always enjoyed hearing and learning every person’s story but also wasn't afraid to share his own experiences and knowledge.

In recent years John was rarely without a book or map in his hand, and when he wasn't reading, he would be out exploring the lakeshore and surrounding areas.  Whether at home or abroad he loved wandering the streets chatting with the locals or enjoying the small things each destination had to offer.   He had a strong will to live, fought hard for his life each and every day and lived life to the fullest.

John was not shy and made friends wherever he went.  He was friendly to everyone throughout his life and will be missed by many.  John will be forever remembered for his big smile, positive attitude and sense of humor.  He was a special person to all who knew him.

The family sincerely appreciates all the expert care and attention provided over the years by the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
