Karin (Muus) Melnychuk

Karin Melnychuk January 23 , 1942 - June 3 , 2026

Karin was born in Kiel Germany in 1942 and immigrated to Canada to with her parents in 1953.  Mom resided in Vancouver and 100 Mile House during her school years moving to McBride, BC as a young adult.  Mom found a job working at the CN Station waitressing in the Beanery where she met her future Husband Bill.  Mom and Dad were married in 1959 and continued to reside in McBride raising 3 children during their time spent there.  Mom worked as a waitress for a time and eventually upgraded to the cook at the Sandman Inn.  After cooking for years Mom opened her own restaurant in McBride "Karin's Cafe."  Mom enjoyed running her very own restaurant employing many people from the local community.  She served the best comfort food making her own pies, buns and homemade soups.  Her patrons always enjoyed her fish and chip specials and monthly Chinese Food night thus bringing in the local crowd from town.  Mom was always interested in sports playing on the McBride women's softball team and curling for many years.  She played in multiple tournaments in and out of town winning multiple competitions.  Mom always took part in the McBride sports days cooking up a storm of hamburgers and hotdogs in the food truck and was a member of the Royal Purple in McBride for many years.  Mom and Dad eventually moved to Coldstream (Vernon) after she sold the restaurant and Dad retired from the CN.  Mom enjoyed spending her time in her garden, it was the best ever!  There were veggies for days, fresh green beans yum, and the raspberry jam was phenomenal.  Mom's flower gardens were always beautiful and well cared for having all kinds of flowers around the yard and on the deck.  In her later years Mom went on many trips to the USA and was lucky to see wonders of the world such as the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore.  Mom always enjoyed the casino and scratch tickets winning small jackpots here and there.

After Dad passed away Mom moved into town as the house was too much to care for on her own.  She enjoyed her weekly bowling league and spending time with her friends from her condo complex inviting people over for coffee and special occasions.  Mom continued to travel to casinos around the States and enjoyed a 21-day trip with her Daughter to Tucson Arizona visiting multiple different sites along the way.  Mom began to slow down from her travels after some battles with her health, so she stayed close to home enjoying visits from Family.  Mom was always a sports fan watching curling competitions, a Rachel Homan fan, NHL, CFL and was always up for a Toronto Blue Jays game.  We don't remember a time where sports were not playing on her television unless it was MeTV enjoying the classic TV shows such as MASH and The Andy Griffith Show.  Mom always had a special place in her heart for animals owning multiple dogs during her life and looking after Family pets while they were out of town.  She would never hurt a fly and would have always opened her door for a lost soul.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Walter and Emmi Muus, her husband William "Bill," and her son in law Barry.  Mom is survived by her daughters Barbara, Sylvia (Dwayne) and Shawna (Tony.)  Niece Lori.  Grandchildren – Amanda, Michael, Michelle, Christopher (Stephenie), Cody (Kristen), and Katie (Nicolas.)  Great Grandchildren – Elissa, Ethan, Jaxon, Amelia, Everly, Vivian and Hunter.

As per Mom's wishes there will be no funeral service, as she would like people to remember her in their own special way.  

As Mom loved all animals in lieu of flowers please make donations to the SPCA.

Mom's Family would like to thank SLGH ER, ICU, level 4 and 2 health care staff for their kind, compassionate care to our Mother and Dr. Imolele and her Resident Doctor for their exceptional care in trying to get her home.  Mom was very fond of you all.
