Luigi Alfano Obituary

Luigi (Louis, Lou) Alfano 94 of Golden BC passed away June 8, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife Hazel in 2012.

Luigi was born in Golden BC on October 20, 1926.  He lived on the family farm in Golden BC almost his whole life.  His parents Raphaelle and Carmella raised him and his 8 siblings there.  Louis first saw his wife Hazel Schiesser driving a tractor through town, and he knew he had to meet her, he married Hazel on June 6, 1953. They then bought the farm from his parents and lived there for his remaining years.

Growing up Lou and his siblings enjoyed music, laughter and dancing.  Their family used to go to many dances throughout the valley, and they were all known for their musical skills and dancing prowess.

Lou was an extremely hard worker. He grew many types of produce and animals at the farm.  He had a dairy business for a few years then opened Lou’s Feed Store which he ran for many years. Lou’s kids learned how to do many of the farming chores, and they did them together as a family. Haying was a big deal at the farm, and the whole family would take part to get in the harvest. He used to chase the kids out of the fields, as they liked to hide in the tall grasses. He picked many rocks out of those fields, and there are large rock piles still, to remind us of how hard he worked.

Family was very dear to Lou and there were always large family gatherings. He was just excited as all of us kids to hand out and open presents at Christmas. He loved spending time with the kids and would come outside and go sledding down the driveway until he was unable. He always sat at the head of the table and told us jokes as we sat and enjoyed our times together. The grandkids all adored their “Gramps”.

Lou and Hazel enjoyed many vacations together all around the world.  They would go camping, fishing and hiking to many local places. Lou especially loved to fish and could not wait to go out again this year, though his health slowed him down. He enjoyed playing games, and Crib was one of his favorites, especially when would “skunk” us many times and laugh. When Lou was 92 he made a cross Canada trip with his two daughters which he enjoyed.

Lou will be remembered for his wit, great sense of humor, his blue eyes and quick smile.  He will be sadly missed by his children, Cheryl Alfano (Carmella, Dennis), Roger and Carmen Alfano (Mandy, Louis, Daniel, Nathan, Brian, Jody), Rhonda and John Addison (Alysa, Kristina), Liz Alfano (Benjamin, Lori) and Cindy and Daryl Flindt (Zachary).  Also, by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brother Dominic Alfano and numerous nieces and nephews and family members.

A celebration of life will be at a later time.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
