Margaret Keehn Obituary

Born in Masefield, Saskatchewan March 22, 1922 as Margaret Rose Kam.

Passed away in Salmon Arm, BC on December 25, 2020

Married Gus Keehn June 2, 1941 in Kelowna. After WW 2 and Gus’s discharge from the army they resided in various communities throughout BC and eventually moved to Salmon Arm West to do some farming in 1960, then sold the farm in 1966 and moved into town to the house that they built together and she continued residing until her passing.

She was a very independent lady, well liked and envied by many, she lived alone for 47 years and still made cabbage rolls, deep fried donuts and all kinds of German foods that she was fed during the depression. She is well remembered for her dedication and work with Stedman’s (Ron Brown), Co-op on Shuswap, McKenzie Men’s wear (Earl), and Eagle Bay store, all after the death of Gus.

She was predeceased by her son, Allan in 1960, her husband Gus in 1973 and son Rod in 2018.

Survived by sons Ken (Faye), Randy (Trudy) and Rick, daughter in law Christine; Grandchildren Brenda & Dianne, Cary-Lynn & Scott, Roxanne, James, Jason & Trina. A total of eleven Great Grandchildren.

On July 10, 2020 we took mom to Princeton so she could visit her oldest son Allan’s, gravesite as this was the 60th anniversary of his death and her last visit had been in 2001. Also, along the way we stopped and visited former neighbors and friends in Aspen Grove, it was a trip and visit I am sure she enjoyed, am so glad we did that for her, even though it was a long day, and never once did she complain she just enjoyed the entire outing.

Then again in August 2020 Ken contacted a former best friend of Margaret’s son, Alan, (Richard Paterson) who resides in Merritt, BC. In late August Richard and his wife drove to Salmon Arm and visited with her at her home for a few hours then went out for a nice meal and long visit at a restaurant.

Thanks to Doctor Chris Weicker for years of care, Doctors Montgomery, Sawatzky-Martens and all the 4th floor nursing staff at SLGH for the kindness to mom during her short stay there.
