In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margherita Federico.
Margherita was born to Emilio and Italia Bonanno in Spezzano Piccolo, Italy on September 21st, 1940. She had fond memories growing up in Italy with her sister Giovanna and her cousin Tonina. Margherita met her husband Antonio and married in 1963. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this March. Before leaving Italy, Margherita and Antonio started their family and had two daughters, Giovanna and Lia. In 1967, Margherita and Antonio immigrated their family to Revelstoke. It was in Revelstoke that they welcomed their third and final child, a son, Lorenzo into the world. Margherita spent her days caring for her husband and children as well as working in a variety of local restaurants.
Margherita could be described as loving, funny, caring, and kind. She loved to sing, cook, bake, and dance – which she did often and always. You could catch her singing her iconic “Ave Maria” and “Tu Scendi Dalle Stelle” every Christmas eve at the Catholic church. Her pasta sauce was delicious and her sponge cake – impeccable. Margherita also enjoyed spending her time knitting, sewing, gardening and watching the Italian channel to keep up with her “storias”.
Margherita was a very proud Wife, Mother, Nanna, and Great Nanna. Her family is what brought her the most joy in life and she will be greatly missed by all who loved and adored her. Margherita was predeceased by her parents and sister. She is survived by her beloved husband Antonio, three children: Giovanna (Vic) Misuraca, Lia (Frank) Bafaro and Lorenzo (Crystal) Federico of Revelstoke; seven grandchildren: Michelle (Candace) Lister, Anthony Misuraca, David (Jess) Bafaro, Margaret (Richard) Bafaro, Emily Federico, Lucas Federico, and Isabel Federico; and seven great grandchildren: Ben, Adam, Dan, Vinny, Peyton, Quinten, and Italia.
Margherita passed on January 25th, 2023, at the age of 82, surrounded by many of those who loved her. Her entire family wants to extend a tremendous thank you to Dr. Kate McCarroll and to all the staff at Mt. Cartier Court who took great care of Margherita over the past two years.
Prayers will be held on Friday February 3rd at 7:00pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Revelstoke. The funeral service for Margherita Federico will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Revelstoke, on Saturday, February 4th at 10:30am. There will be a gathering at the Catholic Church Hall following the procession up to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Margherita’s name to Parkinson Canada.
